Coming Along...

The house is taking on a new look! It's neat because we are slowly seeing the things that we selected and wanted taking shape. After some delivery issues with Pacific Sales, we finally received the major bathroom appliances. Tomorrow we will probably go through them all and make sure it's what we ordered. We opened a few boxes today and were amused to see the new toilets with their buttons on top instead of a regular flusher. I guess the minimal water use aspect of it is one of our efforts to go green. The floors in the master match (woohoo!) and the wall is up in the new closet. We no longer have access to the garage or laundry area from our bedroom...no turning back now. Definitely a "woah" experience. We created two completely different rooms! It feels so...permanent. I'm sure it's normal to experience a range of emotions when it comes to major construction on a house. The master bath has the pipes and electrical for the recessed lights now, and about half of the house now has the baseboard we selected. It is the little things that I barely noticed had changed that are strangely enough getting me excited. I almost completely missed the baseboards, but when I saw it I immediately thought, "hey! we picked that one!" Nick met up with me at the house and we walked through again, tossing out ideas as to what we wanted in the bathroom and setup for the master.

Eddie and his crew have been working six days each week, but are taking this weekend off. They'll be back to work on Monday. There is still a ton to do, but we are still hoping to be finished (at least with the most important major stuff) in 3 weeks. Our inspector will come to the house this week to approve the pipes and electrical. Once we have that okayed then we can close up the walls in the bathrooms.

This Tuesday is the tech scout with the HGTV people. I didn't think I would be able to make it due to work, but as my schedule worked out, I switched my day off with a co-worker so I can make it! Nick and I will meet the folks of the HGTV show Hammer Heads at the house so they can go through the kitchen and make sure any red flags don't pop up. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly- this is the real determining factor of whether or not they choose to continue with our kitchen. I'm so nervous!!! We have new electric paneling that was put in a few days ago. Also at the tech scout we should get a better idea as to what they are going to do to the kitchen.

This weekend with be a little crazy...a movie is being filmed at Karen's house so it's me, Nick, Teddy, Lily, and Biscuit in my studio apartment. Hopefully we'll get around to buying items for the windows...

Here's a video mini walk through of the changes...sorry, the second half of the video is sideways. For some reason I thought that when I turned the camera sideways that the view would still flip to being upright...oops. I'll put up a better video this weekend.

Our Fruit Trees and Bathroom/Closet/New Walls

We grabbed some good looking peaches today. We found out that right now is peach season...sadly we don't have too many peaches, but we will start taking care of it to make sure we get tons next year! Our lime tree, on the other hand, is producing massive quantities! The apple tree? Rather pathetic :-( . Good thing I'm not an apple lover.

The doorway to the new closet is now in its new location. Nick met with Eddie this morning and Eddie told him that we should definitely stop by the house every day this week because there will be some major changes! That sounds pretty exciting. Nick also got a call yesterday from Pacific Sales and the major bathroom appliances (tubs, toilets, sinks, faucets) are being delivered on Tuesday! That's amazing considering they originally told us it would take about 4 weeks to deliver. We looked at some furniture today, and will probably check out more tomorrow. Of course my apartment furniture will be moving with us, and so will Nick's belongings. We aren't too concerned about couches because Karen decided it is time to part with her newly upholstered sofas! We were so surprised!

We've been having issues figuring out how best to utilize our new closet space, so we called and got a free consultation and bid from a company that just builds closets. Nick should hear back from them early this week. In the meantime, we are just trying to do other little things. Today I went and measured all of the windows so we'll know what size curtains and rods to get...and that was about it. We will see what else we can do tomorrow...

Sinful, Sinful

Last night we told a friend of a friend of ours that we just got a house and were moving in together. The guy's eyebrows raised, eyes widened. "Oh, so you guys...eloped." "Ohhh no no no," I started, "We're just boyfriend and girlfriend...on our way to living in SIN!" lol...

The bathroom is coming along! New walls are up in the master bath, and 2 by 4's allow you to really see the morph of one giant bathroom into two. The new headers were put up today, and I was delightfully surprised to see that the shower and tub frames are in the master bath! Yayyy

These are just a couple pics...I didn't have the camera so I took these with my phone...sorry about the tiny size...the first picture is of the new wall in the guest room. The second is the newly framed shower and tub, the bottom left photo shows our new headers, the bottom right the new wall where the vanity will go. I'll have more (and larger) pictures up by tomorrow.

I'll Be Dreaming of Paint Swatches...

Ohhhhhhhh my gooooooooooooodness! I think a person could lose their mind trying to decide what colors to use when painting! There's so much to consider! We've debated and changed our minds and thought we knew what we wanted then didn't. You're given a swatch of a million shades! Nick and I just sat outside and I THINK we may have narrowed down the options. We chose two colors for each room, but I know that even what we've selected will probably change- we'll see.

Karen, Nick, and I stopped by the house this morning to chat with Eddie. The walls and ceilings are pretty much finished- they now have primer on them. We need to start thinking about how dark or light we want the wood floors. It also turns out that they will need replace all the headers in the new master bath since we pushed the walls back. The way it is now we have pieces of wood virtually floating above us...so of course we need to fix the supports. I'd rather not be brushing my teeth and have the ceiling collapse on me!

Above are some pics of the tile we selected for the master bath. The piece in the middle is the accent that goes in the shower. The guest bath is going to be black and white tile...probably a darker vanity, and a light counter top. The master will be a white vanity- we haven't decided on the counter top- I think maybe we are leaning towards a darker one. But of course, all of that could pretty much change at any moment. You can also see the new and improved living room walls and ceilings!!! It looks so much better without the wood paneling!
