Paint! and Today's Surprise

I am really loving the new paint colors in our house!! All of the rooms except the half and guest baths are painted. I still can't get over how well the bathrooms are coming along. Eddie and his guys demoed the half bathroom and started laying tile. Recessed lights are going in and, the most exciting change: no more bars at the front door!!! It felt so weird to just...walk...right up to the front door instead of being required to pass through a metal gate first!

Just to Compare...

This was the one giant master bathroom that we made into two.
This was the kitchen when we first got the house.

Is this the same kitchen?

Eddie and his guys finished laying all the tile in the bathrooms and in the kitchen this week! I still can't believe how quickly things are moving at this point! Everything is pulling together quite nicely and it's truly amazing to really be able to see our ideas become reality. The walls are painted and we love the colors!! The whole house feels very warm and happy! The master bath looks even better now that the light fixtures are in. The glass for the shower will be put in on Wednesday. Today we ordered some hardware, window stuff, and granite for the new kitchen countertops. We discovered this granite yard in Pacoima called Integral Granite and Marble while trying to get to a different place. Lucky us! We found great granite for about a third of what we thought we'd have to pay.

Nick's been tackling the weeds in the backyard. I was gung-ho about it at first until I realized our backyard is crawling in a million different kinds of creepy bugs. Instead I started building the shelves and drawers for the closet so that we can go ahead and get them installed.

Tomorrow will be more of the same. Our list of things to do appears to be never ending!

Almost Done!!!

Here are the latest pictures of the master bathroom!!! I can't believe all of this was just done this week! Tomorrow Eddie's guys are putting in the grout for both bathrooms I believe, and the vanities should be arriving soon. The photos up top are of the newly painted kitchen, minus the horrible old lady border and bad light fixtures. Yesterday we found a place that sells slabs of granite for an amazing price...

Several other rooms in the house are painted, and we are selecting the final colors. I think we want the front door to be red. I'll post more soon!

Chugging Along

Eddie's team finished the floor tile in the guest bath and started a bit of the master bath! The master is already looking sooo relaxing and nice. We also decided to place the kitchen floor tile at an angle. Lastly, I believe we have officially decided on 2 room colors! Hooray!! Enjoy. Note: Top photo is kitchen tile, bottom photos are master bath.

Smells like Hop Mop!

Above you can see the master bath as of today. It's really actually looking like a bathroom! The two videos are an updated walk-through of the bathroom and master bedroom as well as what the kitchen is looking like. I'm so glad the old lady wallpaper border is gone and primer is on the walls. We chose new paint colors so we'll see how they look this week!

Wowza!

So it's been a while since we've blogged about the house...sorry about that! We've had a few issues arise. First of them being that the kitchen will no longer be remodeled for HGTV :-( . We both were initially pretty crushed. We met with the crew during the tech scout and ultimately it was decided that there were too many potential issues in the kitchen that they may not be able to tackle in a short 4-day period. Boo. Now it just means we have one more project which we've already started.

The house is REALLY REALLY coming along since I last blogged. Unfortunately we seem to have misplaced the cord that connects the camera to the computer so it will be a bit before the pics come up (although I took a couple today with my phone...phew! technology)

Let's see...where to begin??? The inspector came and approved the plumbing and electrical in the bathrooms! Walls are now up to completely separate the two new spaces. Yesterday Eddie and his guys put in the tub in the guest bathroom and today there's tile!!

Yesterday they also finished the shower plumbing in the master bath and hot mopped (I think that's right...) the shower as well. Smells gross. Today they put the varnish on the wood floor so now everything is starting to look new and most importantly, the same! We're busily trying to select new colors since we decided against the first round we put on the walls. Eddie's guys will be putting the rest of the bathroom tile in this coming week, and we have our new vanities coming in this week as well. I'm so excited to see them! I just selected the finish we wanted for the guest bath's vanity- the one for the master will be white. The granite counter tops for the bathrooms arrived and tomorrow Nick will be looking at more for the kitchen.

We went back to Rio Marble and Tile last weekend to check out porcelain tile for the kitchen floors. We found one called Luxor Grigio that we really like- it has lots of colors we can draw from when picking a countertop and paint.

Hmmm what else what else what else! So much has happened since I last came on here! We ordered sconces for the bathrooms...I'm a big fan of the ones that will go in the master. Eddie's guys already took out the current kitchen appliances and will be putting the new ones in soon I'm thinking...

This week has been pretty crazy since Karen is on her trip! So really it's just Nick and I really coordinating everything and making sure everything is happening as it should and smoothly. The chimney had a massive crack in it that was fixed this week- a major comfort! We'll probably order knobs and handles and such this weekend or early next week.

In all everything is quite exciting! There was a moment there when it didn't seem like a whole lot was changing, but in reality it was all the little things you can't see (plumbing, electrical, under the house-type stuff.
